Zach Mullennix floated under the radar for all of Day 1A as he minded his own business and chipped up to 245,500 as a result. Mullennix has continued to build on Day 2 and is starting to put some heat on Brian Guenther and Stan Jablonski in today’s first level of play as he is now over 340,000.
Mullennix owes a good portion of his growth a withdrawal made at the hands of Steven Gurney-Goldman. Mullennix opened to 12,000 from the cutoff and Gurney-Goldman defended his big blind to see a Q♠5♠4♦ flop. Both players checked and the 6♦ came on the turn. Gurney-Goldman checked again and Mullennix bet 15,000 with his opponent calling behind.
The 6♥ fell on the river and Gurney-Goldman checked once more. Mullennix bet 26,000 and Gurney-Goldman was left with a difficult decision. With about 80,000 in front of him, Gurney-Goldman called and Mullennix showed Q♣Q♦ for a flopped full house to take in the pot. Gurney-Goldman will have to find a double soon to jump back into contention while Mullennix looks to be preparing himself for a long Day 2.
